Near the end of Spoono v3's life, Akash Goel and Brian Fusco (Spoono's creators) had a dilemma about what to do with large amount of content in, what was then called, the Spoono Downloads area. A lot of the content really didn't fit into the main purpose of Spoono (which is news and educational resources for the web design community). So, after much thought, Brian and Akash decided: let's split off the desktop downloads...and thus Spoonloads was born.
There are a lot of digital art community sites out there, the most prevalent perhaps being DeviantART. When we thought about creating Spoonloads, we decided we did not want to create another art community site. Part of the reason being, DeviantART has over 3 million pieces of art in its databases and a truly frightening amount of text posts describing them. We have no desire to compete with such immense sites, and our server will probably be much relieved that we do not wish to. Instead, our purpose for Spoonloads is for it to be one of the most direct resources of high quality desktop downloads around. We hope to make it a kind of showcase for the best wallpapers, fonts, and other items around. We decided to pass on having user logins, message boards, and comments, because they tend to cloud the main purpose we are striving for. We also decided to have an approval system for submissions to make sure all the content on the site stays top quality. So, all in all, it sounds like a pretty simple idea. Oddly enough, though, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of sites like this out there. Perhaps we'll find out why :o). Until then, enjoy the downloads!
